At Critical Software, building better and safer isn’t a slogan — it’s the impact we aim for in every project. We use technology to solve meaningful challenges, helping organisations work smarter, operate more reliably, and create positive change for people and the planet.
Our people sit at the heart of this mission. Their talent, curiosity, and commitment to quality push us forward and shape the way we deliver technology that truly matters.
Now, we’re looking for a Business Development Manager who understands the Energy sector and the power of technology to transform it. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in IT, digital solutions, or bespoke software services — not traditional infrastructure or hardware sales.
You’ll help energy organisations tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges by bringing Critical Software’s engineering excellence, innovation mindset, and mission‑critical expertise to their most strategic initiatives. Your work directly supports our purpose of building a better and safer world, and our commitment to delivering high‑quality, reliable, and impactful technology.
What do we expect from you?
- Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities for bespoke software solutions and digital transformation projects within the Energy sector.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders — from operational leaders to C‑suite decision‑makers — understanding their challenges and translating them into tailored technology solutions.
- Work closely with engineering and delivery teams to shape proposals that reflect Critical’s high standards of quality, safety, and reliability.
- Lead the full sales cycle, from prospecting, lead generation and qualification to negotiation and contract signature.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to position Critical as a trusted partner in the evolving energy landscape.
- Represent Critical Software at industry events, conferences, and customer engagements, acting as an ambassador for our mission and values.
- Developing a strategy to define which steps to pursue in order to increase business pipeline in the European market.
What makes you a good candidate for this role?
- University degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field
- Proven experience in business development, account management, or solution sales within software engineering, or digital transformation
- Strong understanding of the Energy sector (utilities, renewables, grid management, energy trading, or related domains).
- Ability to sell complex, customised software solutions — not off‑the‑shelf products.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.
- A consultative, value‑driven sales approach grounded in trust, credibility, and technical understanding.
- Curiosity, resilience, and a passion for helping customers solve meaningful problems through technology.
- Commitment to embark upon regular EU travel and occasional wider travel outside EU
