At Critical, we work side‑by‑side with organisations that are shaping the future of healthcare and medical technology. Our Medical Devices Cluster delivers high‑integrity, bespoke software solutions that help our customers tackle their most complex challenges — from safety‑critical systems to next‑generation digital health platforms.

We’re looking for a Business Development Director who can accelerate our growth in this domain, with at least 15 years experience in Business Development and at least 5 in a Director role. Someone who understands the medical devices ecosystem, speaks the language of the industry, and can translate Critical’s engineering excellence into clear value for customers. This is a role for a strategic thinker who is also a natural connector — someone who can open doors, build trust, and mobilise teams around ambitious goals.

What do We expect from You

Market Leadership & Strategy

  • Define a clear, focused business development strategy for the Medical Devices Cluster, aligned with Critical’s long‑term vision.
  • Develop and maintain a deep and up-to-date understanding of the medical devices ecosystem, including OEMs, digital health companies, and regulatory trends.
  • Business-level understanding of Medical Devices regulated software (e.g. IEC 62304, IEC 60601, ISO 14971) development and practices.
  • Identify new market opportunities across areas such as embedded medical software, Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), digital health platforms, and regulated cloud solutions.

Key Account & Relationship Management

  • Build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders across the industry — from established players to innovative scale‑ups.
  • Act as a trusted partner to clients, understanding their technical, regulatory, and business challenges and translating them into value-driven software solutions.
  • Leading strategic account planning and long-term client growth initiatives.

Leadership, Collaboration & Influence

  • Work closely with engineering, delivery, and leadership teams to shape proposals and ensure we bring the best of Critical to every opportunity.
  • Inspire and guide the cluster sales team, fostering alignment, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose.
  • Drive execution with resilience, clarity, and a strong sense of ownership.

Business Development & Sales Execution

  • Identify and pursue high‑value opportunities, building strong relationships across the Medical Devices ecosystem.
  • Lead complex sales cycles end‑to‑end — from early conversations to compelling proposals and closing strategic deals.
  • Represent Critical with clarity and confidence through executive‑level presentations, industry engagement, and a strong professional network.

What Makes You a Great Fit for the Role

  • Strong technical or engineering background, paired with solid experience in business development within regulated industries (ideally Medical Devices or Digital Health).
  • Proven ability to open doors, shape strategic deals, and navigate complex regulatory and commercial landscapes with confidence.
  • Consultative, relationship‑driven approach, comfortable engaging at senior levels and translating complex challenges into clear, compelling value.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the clarity and presence to influence both customers and internal teams.
  • Strategic mindset, resilience, and the drive to turn ideas into action — supported by experience in negotiation, risk management, and commercial planning.
  • Openness to travel and to representing Critical in key industry moments.

  • The chance to make a difference through participation in social and community initiatives.
  • Work-life balance, supported by flexible work policies designed to fit your life around your career at Critical.
  • Fringe benefits and wellbeing programs designed to support you and those important to you.
  • Modern and welcoming offices that will make you feel at home.
